Dave Raymond & Present Company | Debut Out Now
Dave Raymond [ex-Mulehead] has a debut out today. Really rocking at times and then suprisingly introspective at others - always hooky & excellent. The album is in stores now [3/9] with the CD release show at White Water this Saturday, March 13th alongside labelmates, Big Silver. Here's some links [iTunes, Amazon, eMusic] where you can grab it online [or via the Max Store].

Via The Big Cats | Ciao Gratzi
The annual meeting of the Big Cats went down at White Water Dec. 29. Can't thank everybody enough for making it out [friends & fans far and wide, staff @ WWT, Brian for the videos, Michael Jukes for the postcards, The Reds for the perfect set, etc, etc]. We had an absolute blast and hope you did as well. The schedules and stars might align this year and allow us the chance to put out a new record. The songs are piling up, it's just a matter of getting to them.
Xmas Shows | 2009
Lots of nightly events over the next few days. Here's the rundown...
12/26 - American Princes, Love Ghost & The See @ Rev Room
12/29 - Big Cats & The Reds @ WWT

Big Silver | Tributary Release News
About a year ago Big Silver holed themselves up at Blue Chair and made a great record. Very happy to announce that said record - Tributary - is officially available for purchase today [12/1]. Here's some quick links where you can grab it...
iTunes | Amazon | Amie Street
Love Ghost | Get Exit Wounds Now
With the Boondogs in just a bit of hiatus, Jason Weinheimer has kicked out a very cool power pop ep under the monikor Love Ghost. We'll have more to check out with this one over the next week or so but in the meantime, you can stream or purchase the album by visiting here.
Big Cats | Holiday Show
Another year in the history books and once again The Big Cats will get together for a Little Rock holiday show. Save the date: Tuesday, December 29th at White Water Tavern with The Reds.
Chris Michaels | Morning & Night + Pedal Talk!
Out from the shadows, we're happy to announce that Chris Michael's debut long player is officially out now. To celebrate, we're giving away the amazingly rocking "NeverBe". Grab & crank. And speaking of cranking, Charles Wyrick [he's got a great Maxcast available as well] hosts his first Pedal Talk podcast at the always great Lucky Dog site. Check it out here.
Max Deck | Limited Qty.
With fantastic design help from Isaac Alexander, we're super happy to announce that we've got a limited run of Max Recordings skate decks available. These decks are Arkansas made by longtimer Paige Hearn at his shop in NLR. We're using his 8" Funsize deck [complete stats can be found here]. Not to make the collector nerd sweat, but these are in short supply [qty. 25 total] so if yer interested go ahead and grab one up. You can order by clicking on the mock-up below.
New Releases | Ours & Theirs
Along with the Gunbunnies lp, we've been whittling away on a string of late 09 releases. Up next in the LR canon:
Big Silver - Tributary
Love Ghost - Exit Wounds
Dave Raymond & Present Company - Familiar Sting
Salty Dogs - Brand New Reason
Also, our friends over at Last Chance Records are very close to bringing you the vinyl version of Kevin Kerby's latest, Beautiful & Bright. Head there for more info on that one.
Harvestfest | Max Curates
The annual Hillcrest block party that is Harvestfest is less than a month away and we're getting excited for it. Max is curating the music line-ups this year and we think it's a good one. Here's the schedule:
1pm - Chris Denny
3pm - The See
5pm - Kevin Kerby + Battery
8pm - American Princes
Gunbunnies | Listen Now
The Gunbunnies is out and available everywhere. There is both an LP & digital versions [ vinyl junkies: the lp comes included with a download card where you can grab high bit rate mp3s as well.
Slumberland | Free Repeater
Our friends who made Slumberland get another local big screen showing early next month. It'll be at Little Rock's Riverdale cinema on August 5 & 6. Screenings are happening each day at 7 & 9pm and are free.
Silver Swirly | Free & Live
Our longtime hombre, Silver Swirly, plays at Satellite Cafe tonight [Friday, July 31]. Show kicks up at 9pm sharp.
Mega Jukebox | Via iMax
We've been busy the past couple of weeks and have been neglecting the Music section of the iMax app. That ends today. With the random play feature on iMax start up [and the completist in my personality], I thought of adding every song from every title to the jukebox. That's an insanely daunting task though and so we've started out instead with one song from every Max release [or Max distributed release]. It's still way way impressive and a huge testament to the great music filtering thru the sweet waters of AR.
Matt "Reggie" Edmonds | Miss You
As alot of you know, we had horrible news this week when our good friend Matt "Reggie" Edmonds died while bicycling on a highway in Tulsa. Matt was a sweet, funny, and peaceful guy. He'll be badly missed.
Mama | Out Now! & On iMax
Lenny Bryan's [Ho Hum] great new solo outing titled - Mama "The Sound Of Inevitibility" - is out digitally everywhere today. You can pick up the CD version at a few spots around LR [The Station, AR Record & CD Exchange, etc] or you can pick it up pronto from any of these online hubs. Here's the links:
Kevin Kerby | Pro Footage
Lots of new video around the internets of Kevin Kerby. The Ark Time has "You & Your Chemical Smile" shot in WWT some weeks ago. More bearded [and stranger] footage found here & here & here.
iMax | Via Apple
[Update: iMax v2 is now available thru the App store. Takes care of the busted up naming issue under the app icon as well as a few minor glitches.]
So far so good on everybody enjoying the new Max Recordings iPhone / Touch App. We're stoked about the number of downloads it got over the weekend. For any of those using it or about to grab it, please take a second and review it if you don't mind. Also, it's kinda hidden but in the Fan Wall section of App you can not only post text but photos. Could be an interesting way to document shows, etc. Really no rules here though, it's you guys to use however you like.
Nate Powell | Swallow Me Whole
Nate Powell's [Soophie Nun Squad] new comic Swallow Me Whole is getting raves from all over. Tons of links you can dive into about this one. Check here, here and here for starters. And then next time you've got a longer bit of free time, check out his podcasted interview here. Way to go Nate!
KK | Album Release Show
Just got finalized, the local release show for the new Kevin Kerby + Battery show will be at White Water on Saturday, May 16th.
Kevin Kerby & Battery | Free Download
The plethora of new Kevin Kerby music we've been promising begins today. And besides the heaps of music coming your way, we've got some cool extras we think you'll dig as well. To get it started though, here's a link to where you can grab the new tune, "You And Your Chemical Smile" from the upcoming album titled Beautiful & Bright.
S. Schmidt | Avenue Boulevard
The lord giveth and the lord taketh away. Today though, he giveth. Just got good word about a new Steve Schmidt project called Avenue Boulevard. Great sounds abound from the practice space tapes. Follow the link to check out [current fave is "Neon Forest Rangers"].
Max Rec | Year End Faves
With everyone else checking in for the year end bests we found it too hard to not join in. Naturally, we listened to loads of Max related music, but we'll leave that off this one. That said, in no particular order, our faves from the year that was 08. Cheers & see you in 09!
Centro-Matic - Dual Hawks
Shudder To Think - Live at Voodoo Festival
Eric Felton - "How's Your Drink" [i.e. The Bicardi Cocktail]
Broken Social Scene Presents Kevin Drew - Spirit If
Matt Besser & Trusty - December 22 at Vino's
Night Marchers - See You In Magic + the 45 records
The Whigs - Mission Control
Steve Martin - "Born Standing Up"
The Walkmen - You & Me [i.e. Juan's Basement clips]
Magnet Magazine | Princes At #1 Spot
Three years ago Magnet literally would not review American Princes records. I know because I tried. A week ago, the magazine named the band's Other People the best record of 2008. Congratulations guys!

Make plans, save the date, etc. It's gonna be good. Here's the list:

Boondogs | "Oh Dana"
As promised, here's a perfectly trashed up version of the Boondogs doing Big Star's "Oh Dana". To boot, there's a totally beautiful looking video from the band's new album Take Shelter. The video is for the song "Heaven". It was shot in New Orleans by Benjamin Reece last month.
Maxcast | Numero Dos
Maxcast number two went up a couple of weeks back. This one from Trusty's Bobby Matthews. Really hilarious & well worth your time. Download it here. More of these are planned. Up next, we dig deep with Charles Wyrick [Boondogs, Easys, Western Meds].
Loch Ness Monster | New Review
Just got an alert to a very cool review for the Loch Ness album. Head to the band's page here at Max to check it out.
The Good Fear | More Music On iTunes
Just a quick note. We just found out that we're going to be helping The Good Fear's debut reach a wider audience. Keep In Touch will be available on iTunes, eMusic, and the like starting in early 2009. We'll remind you when it's actually available, just wanted to let you know it'll be here soon.
Halloween | Cover Versions
The Halloween cover up was in full swing this year. Hopefully more videos like this one to come!
Blog News | CheckOneTwo
Always intersting blog stuff happening. This month we're especially tuned to CheckOneTwo. Up now with something near & dear to our own hearts is a profile of the Good Fear's Zach Holland. Start there and then dig around for more goodness!
Chino Horde | 2xLP Reissue
Indirect Max news, but something interesting in the works [via German label Adagio 830] to do a double LP re-issue of some of the Chino Horde back catalog. On tap for LP1 is the debut album, while LP2 will cover the band's 7" songs, unreleased B-sides, and live-to-radio tracks. We'll update you as soon as we know more.
FHT | The Recap
No way to imagine that Big Catter Jason White would return with GD not with the band proper but with the livelier Foxboro Hot Tub version. All of which was a complete blast. Warm fuzzies all around to hear Billie's ode to Jason at the top of their set at Juanitas. Anyways, lots to report...
The Foxboro tour ended last night and so while it's all at an indefinite pause we'll do our best at documenting the madness by doling out some of our fave links to the action. Here goes:
Kevin + Battery barreled through a ton of new songs at Riverfest on Saturday. A few douses of rain didn't deter the fans [or the stragglers], and we managed to get a new song to You Tube for yer viewing. Speaking of new Kerby-ness...recordings are in progress on record #2. We promise to update you with more next month.
