The latest happening from Arkansan Ben Dickey and Company is the appropriately titled Amen Booze Rooster. A three-piece mismash of a group that resides in Philadelphia and grabs influences from an off-center "in the cups" bluegrass / punk hybrid that at times recalls the early records from the Violent Femmes. With acoustics, banjos, drums, bass, and a voice that teeters in the registers of Tom Pettydom, Amen Booze Rooster match superb songwriting with brilliant originality for exquisite, tuneful results.
