Il Libretina

The Little Rock family tree just keeps growing. Pulling from former Arkansas heavywights - Trusty (later of the Dischord entourage), Five-0, and Substance - Il Libretina's reputation seemed to preceed itself. And with all respect, in the three years since their existence, they've more than lived up to it. A four-piece band with three distinctly different songwriters combine for a style and sound that is truly special. Capable of wailing rockers as well as gentler, near waltz-like numbers, Il Libretina presently stand at a point where they're well aware of where their strengths lie. So far they've released a terrifically original album on the ZenArk label and a 45 single for the songs "Tupelo" & "Four Leafed By-Way" on Max Recordings. In recent months they've pursued after even bigger stakes, namely a publishing/demo deal that is currently in the works.

Press:

"...My immediate reaction is that they sound like the Posies, a popish, guitar-happy outfit that once dwelled on Geffen but never escaped the fringes of alternative rock. Of course that isn’t fair to il libretina members, who know harmonies, tunes and guitars and have real potential. You can hear it in hook-happy "Oklahoma" and the pretty "Exit Planet Blue." My guess is the next record will find the guitars more prominent and louder. Another guess: Somebody is gonna come along and squeeze a real radio hit out of this band. Whatever the case, whenever anybody whines about the lameness of the Little Rock scene, you can just fling this CD at their face." – Werner Trieschmann / Arkansas Democrat-Gazette

"Very catchy guitar rock." - Punk Planet (November 2003)
